Sylvie Esmonin Gevrey Chambertin Clos Saint Jacques 2020

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques ler Cru is mighty and burly on the nose, what feels like a later-picked CSJ, just a little menthol emerging with the red fruit. There is a bit of new oak to be assimilated here. The palate is medium-bodied with the thickset tannins that frame the toasty black fruit. Layered but with admirable purity, it's pretty stocky on the finish. This will require five or six years in bottle. The 2020 is a modern-style Clos Saint-Jacques. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
