A Bordeaux-style wine that is bold, this wine is already quite impressive. There is power in this estate vintage with structure that will age beautifully. Combining new and once-used French Oak has proven to be the best approach to this now fully mature vineyard. The nose shows a bold wine with dark fruit, Bing cherry, black cassis, blackberry, violet, dried lavender, and hints of powdery cocoa and coffee grounds. Upon entry, there is lingering black fruit and graphite carried by integrated, supple, opulent, and seductive tannins. The mid-palate expresses ground coffee or espresso with hints of vanilla and smoke followed by a beautifully long finish. This vintage is a bit more earth-driven than previous years, suggesting that it is going to be a powerful wine upon its 2013 release. It maintains its acid structure, which was also apparent in the 2008 and 2009 vintages, and suggests it will age elegantly for the next 20 years.
