A focused, vibrant style, this red delivers black currant, blueberry and toasty oak aromas and flavors, with a hint of tar and mineral. Dense and persistent, delivering an intense core of fruit on the long finish. Best from 2021 through 2035. 48 cases imported.
Vinous
- v88-90
(vinified with a higher percentage of whole clusters than the Chambolle villages): Moderately saturated bright medium ruby. Richer and riper on the nose, with aromas of black raspberry, menthol and chocolate complicated by sexy soil tones. Densely packed and a bit youthfully medicinal, conveying an almost iodiney minerality in the early going. Today the wine's big, chewy tannins are a bit dominant and dry. Winemaker Vincent Lécheneaut does virtually no pigeages for this wine from deep clay soil as it naturally has a strong tannic spine. This rather tough village wine will probably need five years of aging.
