Alain and Baptiste Grangeon make this wine from a small, 3.7-acre plot of old vines. Aged in wood for 2-3 years, it shows definite vanilla characters, with intense, ripe black flavors, great concentration and richness and flavors of cassis and spice. The second vintage for the cuvee and a bigger, richer version of the classic cuvee, the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Renaissance offers lots of black and blue fruits, pepper, violets, licorice and spice on the nose. Full-bodied, loaded with fruit, concentrated and hedonistic, it has a hint of rusticity to its tannin, but should have no issues holding for at least another 4-5 years.
