Gerard Mugneret Vosne Romanee Aux Vigneux 2019
|Region||France, Burgundy, Vosne-Romanée|
It's deep and rich but not heavy. A friend of mine compares it to a provincial barrister: distinguished, presents well, doesn't appear to be generous. But the wine is not what it appears to be at first glance and is in fact generous. It's multi-faceted. It is more complex than Quatrains and with a less obvious spine than Précolombière.
The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Aux Vigneux has a lovely bouquet of orange-blossom-infused red fruit, kirsch and red currant jus, superbly delineated and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with impressive substance and freshness, slightly grainy in texture with blacker, tarry fruit toward the finish. Superb.
From two parcels located in this lieu-dit below Les Suchots, the 2019 Vosne-Romanée Vigneux exhibits aromas of plums, wild berries and cassis, complemented by subtle top notes of peonies and blood orange. Medium-bodied, pretty and perfumed, it's another of the finer-boned, more elegant wines in the range, with beautifully refined tannins and succulent girdling acids.
