Gerard Mugneret Vosne Romanee Cuvee Precolombiere 2018
|Region||France, Burgundy, Vosne-Romanée|
This is Pascal's Vosne with the most tension and he says it will be able to age as well as a premier cru. The tension comes from a layer of stones at 1.5 meters of depth but also from the very oldest vines in Colombière, planted in 1929. Due to the deep red clays, there is also plenty of fruit to buffer the tension, "and the tannins are not firm," Pascal says. "They keep the drinker interested and call for another glass."
The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Selection Pre-Colombière contains 60% whole-bunch fruit, though it is difficult to discern on the nose, which is very well defined with touches of sous-bois/autumn leaves infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. A finely chiseled Vosne-Romanée with impressive mineralité and tension toward the lightly spiced finish. Excellent.
