Wine AdvocateThe Ente 2007 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Gain - from more than 50 year old vines - smells of hyacinth, fresh lemon, and sea breeze. Slightly firmer (though texturally refined) and more discreet in flavor than the village Puligny - characteristics Ente associates inherently with this site - it offers the palate subtly savory, saline, and chalky nuances against a background of peach and citrus. This finishes intriguingly in ways that transcend my limited "mineral vocabulary," and which I expect to be worth following for half a dozen or more years. Ente associates the pronounced mineral cast of Champ Gains with the high level of find particulate matter and smaller stones that permit the roots to go especially deep.
