Groth Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 1995
Wine EnthusiastAn elegant wine with lean yet fairly intense fruit in the black-cherry/ plum range. Past the opening fruit there are touches of chocolate and dashes of spice. Because of its harmony and balance, the wine is drinking quite well now, but should be even better with five to eight years of bottle age.
Wine SpectatorDrying tannins, with rich bittersweet chocolate, herb and currant flavors that are tightly wound and a bit linear, ending with a dry, cedary, gritty edge. Needs decanting.--1995 California Cabernet retrospective. Drink now through 2010. 1,350 cases made.
Wine AdvocateHeavy, creamy, toasty oak tends to dominate moderate levels of blackberry and cassis fruit in this moderately endowed, medium-bodied, stylish, elegant Cabernet Sauvignon. Tannin in the finish suggests a limited life of 4-8 years. It is good, but uninspiring, particularly in view of the price.
