This wine is an homage to Joe Duarte, a prominent grape grower in Contra Costa who first introduced Turley to the incredible vineyards of the area. The wine is comprised of fruit from the turn-of-the-century Evangehlo, Mori and Salvador vineyards, planted between 1890 and 1930. As a result of the sandy soils and impressive age of the vines, the wine has some of the softest, silkiest tannins we've ever seen in a Zinfandel.

Wine AdvocateThe 2000 Zinfandel Duarte Vineyard, from a vineyard planted in 1896 in pure sand, exhibits aromas of white flowers, blueberries, raspberries, and cherries. For a Contra Costa Zin, it is unusually powerful (750 cases;16% alcohol). This layered, full-bodied, beautifully crafted, unctuously-textured 2000 possesses great fruit along with plenty of presence on the palate. The wine possesses an explosive bouquet, gorgeously ripe flavors, and a super finish. It is one of the finest Duarte Zinfandels Turley has made. Consume it over the next 7-8 years ... unless you are a necrophiliac.

Wine SpectatorA bold, ripe and richly flavored wine that's complex and concentrated, with plum, blackberry and exotic spicy nuances that are very nicely focused. Shows a trace of heat on the finish, but also depth and complexity. Drink now through 2007.
