Turley Juvenile Zinfandel 2000

SKU C0351

Though the vast majority of our wines are single vineyard designates, Juvenile is actually composed of a variety of young vines that have been replanted in several of our old vine sites. We tag the vine when we replant it so as not to mix the brand new vine with its much older neighbors, then pick these young vines separately and make a distinct wine. The vines that make up Juvenile range in age from about 6-25 years, and we pull from 18 of our best vineyards across California, including Hayne, Ueberroth, Pesenti, Salvador, Vineyard 101, Fredericks and Kirschenmann.

Wine AdvocateThe 2000 Zinfandel Juvenile is a composite blend of fruit from young vines from all the top Zinfandel vineyards Turley farms (i.e., Moore/Earthquake, Hayne, Duarte, and Presenti). These young vine parcels are segregated and not blended with the old vine parcels used for the more substantial offerings produced under the single vineyard labels. There are 950 cases of the Juvenile, which sees about 20% new oak. This is a great value in Zinfandel ($20.00), offering abundant quantities of cassis and blackberry fruit, a big, peppery, spicy nose, medium to full body, and loads of berry fruit offered in an extravagantly rich, grapy style. This fun wine should last for 4-6 years.

Wine SpectatorA ripe, racy style, with tasty wild berry and raspberry fruit and shades of earth. Shows plenty of heat and lacks the extra depth and concentration you might hope for. Drink now through 2006. 1,000 cases made.
