Saxum Broken Stones 2006

Saxum Broken Stones 2006

SKU C0290

Saxum's vineyards are all farmed to strict standards. We respect our land and farm it sustainably and therefore no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used. Everything is done by hand and yields are kept naturally low from the rocky soils and extensive thinning. Because our vine's roots penetrate deep through the fissures in the rock irrigation is rarely needed.

Wine AdvocateThe 2006 Broken Stones (63% Syrah, 24% Grenache, and 13% Mourvedre) blew me away. An inky/purple color and a dazzling, explosive bouquet of black raspberries, camphor, cassis, forest floor, and spring flowers are followed by a rich, elegant wine offering laser-like precision as well as a striking minerality. It is a powerful yet graceful effort that should drink well for 10-12+ years.

Wine SpectatorOffers waves of ripe, exotic dark berry fruit, with wild berry, raspberry and blackberry jam notes that are full-bodied, rich and intense, pure and focused, ending with a long, complex, persistent finish. Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2015.

Wine EnthusiastA combination of Saxum's James Berry, Heart Stone and Booker vineyard bottlings. Big, slightly rustic, and fruit-forward, with scoury, hard tannins. Give it a good airing.
