Saxum Heart Stone Vineyard 2005

Saxum Heart Stone Vineyard 2005

We're sorry, but this product is not currently available.

The Heart Stone Vineyard is a tiny 7 acre vineyard planted on a gentle South slope of limestone and shale. With 8 different clones of Syrah, 4 of Grenache, and one Mourvedre we aim to produce a wine that is both compelling and complex. The high density planting allows the vines to hold only 1 or 2 pounds of fruit each, in turn concentrating the flavors.

Wine AdvocateLooking at the 2005 Heart Stone Vineyard, this blend of 44% Syrah, 33% Grenache and 23% Mourvedre offers up impressive aromatics, medium to full-bodied richness and fabulous purity of fruit. Creme de cassis, black cherries, licorice, smoked earth and wild herbs like qualities all emerge from the glass, and this nicely structured effort stays pure and focused on the palate, with excellent overall freshness and energy. It should easily continue to shine for another decade.

Wine EnthusiastThe chocolate, cassis, cherry liqueur, licorice and smoky oak flavors are wrapped into smooth, rich, ripe tannins. Compulsively drinkable, almost a food group on its own, the wine is roughly equal parts Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre.

Wine SpectatorOffers subtlety and finesse. A charming style, with rich layers of dried currant, sage, fresh earth, mineral and light cedary oak. Holds its focus and ends with a complex aftertaste. Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2011. 500 cases made.
