Wines from this appellation combine precision, minerality, restrained power, and depth. The red fruit aromatic profile is enhanced by floral note nuances. Oriented north-south, the stony soils provide excellent drainage. In summer after the last plowing, when the rain has 'washed' the surface of the soil, one has the impression that the vineyard has been paved with white rocks. This makes for early ripening grapes, compared to the domaine's other parcels. This parcel was 40% replanted after its purchase in 1987, even though it had already been re-planted in 1983.

Wine AdvocateThe 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1Er Cru les Charmes was affected by the drosophila suzukii fly and had to be cut through times in the middle of August to get rid of acid rot. It has a lively redcurrant and raspberry preserve-scented bouquet. It is not the most complex Chambolle Charmes, but I appreciate the purity here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very harmonious with suggestions of sage and white pepper towards the finish. The oak is nicely integrated here and it feels very persistent; it just needs to spread its wings after bottling.
