Domaine Anne Gros Chambolle Musigny La Combe d'Orveau 2014

'La Combe' sits high up on the slope, above grand crus Echezeaux and Clos Vougeot; its fine tannins and elegant, rubied fruit are inspired by the vineyard's chalky, fossil-rich soils. This cuvée of Chambolle is often the easiest to approach thanks to its lower acidity. The tannins, whether soft or firm, are always balanced by the phenolic maturity of the vintage. The beautiful ruby colour is typical of the light soil. This is a delicate, elegant wine with notes of red fruit (red current, raspberry) as well as floral nuances (rose, violet). It is a great match with poultry, roasted red meat and mild cheeses. We recommend that you drink it fairly young (between 2 to 10 years) to take full advantage of its elegant texture.

Wine AdvocateThe 2014 Chambolle Musigny la Combe d'Orveau is back, back, back after being hailed off last year. It has a tightly wound bouquet with blackberry, wet limestone and briary scents, more Morey in style than Chambolle perhaps. The palate is crisp and taut on the entry, quite terse and backward; this is a broody Chambolle with a brisk, very linear finish. It should gain more flesh by the time of bottling, but it might still be convalescing from the trauma of 2013.
