Domaine Bertagna Vougeot Clos de la Perrière 1995
|Appellation||Cote de Nuits|
BurghoundBright reddish fruits with some secondary aromatics in evidence are followed by nicely precise middle weight, nicely complex flavors underpinned by suave tannins and the barest touch of new oak, all wrapped in solid if not exceptional length. Vougeot 1ers can sometimes be foursquare and hard yet this seems quite deftly made and elegant by comparison. I quite liked this and while it's somewhat edgy, the tannins are largely resolved and it's drinking perfectly now. In short, this is lovely stuff crafted in an understated, reserved style.
Wine AdvocateRevealing a touch of brick in its otherwise ruby color, this wine (originally rated an 88 in Issue #111) has a strawberry, raspberry, stone, and gravel-laden nose as well as a chewy, pretty, fresh, and pure character filled with black cherries and cassis flavors. It will be at its best between 2000 and 2004.
